Job Description: Commercial Analyst
Location: Support Office, Central London
Role Overview and Responsibilities
The objective of the Commercial Analyst is to translate performance data into clear insights and recommendations that improve business results. The role will support commercial decision making by analysing sales, customer and brand trends, assessing promotional and trading performance, and identifying opportunities to drive profitability.
The Commercial Analyst will work across the commercial function, connecting data across channels and teams, owning elements of the planning and budgeting cadence, and translating performance into decision-ready recommendations and actions.
· Trading & Promotional Activity:
o Analyse sales trends and customer performance to identify opportunities for growth & identify potential risk across our complex retail estate.
o Provide weekly and monthly reporting on key commercial metrics, including sales, margin, and profitability.
o Support forecasting and budgeting processes including executing budget roll ups and preparing sign offs for the executive team with data-driven insights.
o Provide promotion analysis at a sales, customer and margin level and make strategic recommendations for future activity based on the insights.
o Enhancing our understanding of customer and margin drivers to optimise our profitability.
· Marketing Income & Rate Card Impact
o Analyse brand investment in marketing activations and measure effectiveness.
o Assess revenue generated through rate card placements across stores, online, and new store launches and assess the return on space investment.
o Provide recommendations to optimise marketing income streams.
· Customer & Market Insights:
o Provide insights into market trends and competitor activity working with partners such as Circana and SimilarWeb
o Analyse how trading activity impacts behaviour of different customer segments.
o Support strategic initiatives to enhance customer engagement and loyalty.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Leading on central planning activities including peak & contingency planning
o Work closely with finance, channels, inventory and categories to align commercial planning and strategies.
o Provide actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders based on data insights.
o Lead on commercial projects with supporting business cases for new initiatives and opportunities.
Skills & Experience Required
· Strong analytical skills with experience in commercial or retail analysis.
· Proficiency in data tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Qliksense or similar platforms.
· Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
· Experience in retail, e-commerce, or consumer goods would be beneficial.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
· A motivated self-starter who is keen to be the driving force of this newly created business function
